Things To Come : Speak Of The Devil

Things To Come: Sweet Gina / Speak Of The Devil

There is something special with 60s combos sounding satanic and spooky.
Speak Of The Devil goes a loooong way trying to sound as evil as possible, it's funny they succeed.
Lead singer Steve Rudolfsson comes on like a Van Morrison choking on Mick Jagger, or rather the other way around.. anyway, he sounds totally possessed.
But this is not just the singer's song, the whole band put on a fine display with soaring feedback, wicked drumbeat clonking along and spooky organ straight out of yer average abandoned haunted house.

The 45 is one of the few killer 2-siders - the flip is in my pretentious opinion a bit weaker, but that is a matter of taste.
However, this places #6 on the TBM Top 1000. Yup, this is one of the absolute coolest artifacts of the 60s.

Sorry, gotta go! Satan calls my name.

  1. Agree about that assessment, Sweet-Gina is fine, but a bit too much Gloria (not a bad thing, mind you) to reach the level of this one. Maybe they should've coupled Devil with Behold Now Behemoth. Their Warner Bros. singles are completely different but really cool. By the way does Steve Rudolgsson sing on the Aftermath's Freakout U.S.A., sounds a bit like him?
